Lake of the Pines Bail Bond Services
Lake of the Pines is one of the more distinctive communities in Nevada County — a private, gated neighborhood of about 2,000 households built around a 230-acre lake in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Established in 1967, LOP has grown from a weekend retreat into a full-time home for a genuinely diverse cross-section of families: retirees enjoying resort-style living, young families raising kids across the road at the local schools, and multi-generational families where several branches live within the same gates.
That closeness — the tight-knit, vibrant community feel, the neighbors who know each other's names, the 4th of July that shuts down car traffic for a day of hot dogs, snow cones, and fireworks over the dam — is one of the reasons discretion matters so much here. When something difficult happens to a family inside a gated community, it isn't the sort of thing anyone wants circulated.
Bail House Bail Bonds has served Nevada County families for over 50 years, and we handle Lake of the Pines cases with the privacy this community expects.
Where Lake of the Pines Arrestees Are Booked
Most arrests made in Lake of the Pines — whether by the Nevada County Sheriff's Office or the California Highway Patrol — result in booking at the Nevada County Jail (Wayne Brown Correctional Facility) in Nevada City.
Nevada County Jail (Wayne Brown Correctional Facility) — Located in Nevada City, about a 35 to 40-minute drive north from LOP up Highway 49. Even though Auburn (and the Placer County Jail) is much closer geographically, Nevada County jurisdiction means Wayne Brown is the booking facility. More about Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.
Lake of the Pines is a private, gated community with a strict 25 mph speed limit and no local police department — Nevada County Sheriff's Office deputies handle law enforcement calls inside the gates and along the surrounding roads. CHP handles the Highway 49 corridor.
The drive back from Wayne Brown to LOP is around 35 to 40 minutes. Booking, paperwork, and release processing add several hours on top of that. Most LOP families are looking at somewhere between a few hours and half a day from arrest to home, depending on how busy the jail is.
Common Lake of the Pines arrest situations we help with include:
- DUI arrests along Highway 49 and Combie Road — heavily patrolled at night and on weekends, including on drives home from Auburn or Grass Valley
- Domestic violence charges — with all the additional complications those cases carry, including no-contact orders and firearm surrender requirements
- Traffic and vehicle-related charges — including warrants that surface during routine traffic stops
- Drug and alcohol offenses — including possession, DUI-adjacent charges, and Boating Under the Influence on the lake itself
- Assault, battery, and disturbance calls — sometimes stemming from disputes at community events or gatherings
If you're not sure where your loved one is being held or what they've been charged with, call us. We can locate them quickly.

How the Bail Process Goes in LOP
What to expect after an arrest in Lake of the Pines:
Booking
The arresting officer transfers custody to the jail. The defendant is photographed, fingerprinted, and their belongings are logged. This typically takes 2–4 hours, though it can run longer on weekends or during busy periods.
Bail Set
Most charges follow the Nevada County bail schedule, which assigns a standard dollar amount to each offense. A judge sets bail for more serious charges. You do not need to wait for arraignment to find out the bail amount — call us and we can confirm it.
Bond Posted
Once you contact Bail House Bail Bonds and sign the paperwork, we submit the bond directly to the Detention Center. Release typically takes 1–3 hours after the bond is accepted, but it depends on how long it takes the booking process.
Release
We call you when your loved one is ready for release. You can pick them up or schedule a ride for them. They must appear at all future court dates at the Nevada County Courthouse. If they do not appear, the bond is forfeited.
Why Lake of the Pines Residents Trust Bail House Bail Bonds
LOP is a community where privacy is baked into the design — a gated entrance, private roads, tight-knit neighborhoods where people know each other's routines. When a family here has an arrest to deal with, the last thing they want is a big out-of-area agency treating it like a routine transaction, or worse, showing up to the gates in a marked vehicle.
That's not how we work. We're a local business — no call centers, no scripts. When you call us at 2 a.m., you're talking to someone who lives around here, understands the Wayne Brown intake process inside and out, and treats every family's situation with the discretion it deserves.
Our owner, Melissa Zimmerman, has been in the bail industry since she was 18. Her decades of experience serving Nevada County — learning under founder Frank Calabretta — gives us a level of local knowledge that only comes from being in this work for a long time. That matters when a family needs answers quickly, and it matters even more when they need the situation handled quietly.

Our mission is straightforward: reunite people with their families so they can address legal matters from home rather than from behind bars.
