Our Truckee office is 1/2 mile from the jail. Call 24/7: (530) 265-0535
Where is your loved one being held?
If someone you know was just arrested in Truckee, they are likely at one of two locations:
Truckee Detention Center (Truckee Jail) Nevada County Sheriff's Office — Truckee Substation 10879 Donner Pass Road, Truckee, CA 96161 Phone: (530) 550-3068 Open: 24 hours
Most Truckee arrests go here first. This is where booking happens and where bail is posted for release. In some cases — when the facility is at capacity or the charge requires it — a person may be transferred to the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City.
Wayne Brown Correctional Facility (Nevada City) 925 Maidu Ave, Nevada City, CA 95959 Phone: (530) 265-1291 Open: 24 hours
If you're not sure which facility holds your loved one, call us. We can locate them quickly.

What to Expect After an Arrest in Truckee
Here is what typically happens at the Truckee Detention Center after an arrest:
Booking
The arresting officer transfers custody to the jail. The defendant is photographed, fingerprinted, and their belongings are logged. This typically takes 2–4 hours, though it can run longer on weekends or during busy periods.
Bail Set
Most charges follow the Nevada County bail schedule, which assigns a standard dollar amount to each offense. A judge sets bail for more serious charges. You do not need to wait for arraignment to find out the bail amount — call us and we can confirm it.
Bond Posted
Once you contact Bail House Bail Bonds and sign the paperwork, we submit the bond directly to the Truckee Detention Center. Release typically takes 1–3 hours after the bond is accepted, but it depends on how long it takes the booking process.
Release
We call you when your loved one is ready for release from the Truckee Detention Center. You can pick them up or schedule a ride for them. They must appear at all future court dates at the Truckee Courthouse. If they do not appear, the bond is forfeited.
Common Charges We See in Truckee and Tahoe
Truckee's geography and seasonal population create specific arrest patterns. We regularly post bail for:
-
DUI on I-80 and Highway 267 — A high-traffic corridor patrolled by CHP year-round, with increased enforcement during ski season.
-
Ski resort-related incidents — Altercations, theft, and drug charges at Palisades Tahoe, Northstar, and Sugar Bowl are booked at the Truckee Detention Center.
-
Domestic violence charges — These carry mandatory arrest policies in California. Bail is typically set, but a judge may impose conditions on release.
-
Warrant arrests — Existing warrants are frequently picked up during traffic stops on I-80. If you suspect an outstanding warrant, call us before any law enforcement contact.
-
Theft and property crimes — Common during high-traffic tourist periods.
Frequently Asked Questions — Truckee Jail
-
How long does booking take at the Truckee Detention Center?
Typically 2–4 hours on a normal day. During busy periods — holiday weekends, New Year's, ski season surges — it can take longer. We recommend calling us as soon as you learn of the arrest rather than waiting for booking to complete. We can begin the paperwork process immediately.
Other factors that can influence how long the booking process takes are whether the individual has to go to the hospital first to be treated, if they have priors that require a judge to review their case before bail is set, and of course, weather.

What's the difference between the Truckee jail and Wayne Brown in Nevada City?
The Truckee Detention Center is a smaller facility that handles local Truckee-area arrests. Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City is the main Nevada County jail and handles longer-term custody and overflow from Truckee. Transfers between the two facilities do happen. If you're unsure where your loved one is, we can find them.
-
Can bail be posted directly at the Truckee Detention Center?
Yes. We post bail at the Truckee facility directly. You do not need to go to Nevada City. Our Truckee office is 1/2 mile away and we submit paperwork on-site.
-
What court handles cases from Truckee arrests?
The Truckee Courthouse at 10075 Levon Avenue handles arraignments and hearings for Truckee-area cases (it's also called the Joseph Government Center). Some cases may be transferred to the Nevada City Courthouse depending on the charge. We will tell you where their court appearances will take place after bail is posted.
-
Can I post bail before the arraignment?
Yes — in most cases. Bail amounts are set by the Nevada County bail schedule at the time of booking, which means you can post bail before any court hearing. For charges where bail is not automatically set (certain serious felonies), a judge must set it at arraignment. We'll tell you immediately if that applies.
-
Do you serve the Tahoe City and Kings Beach area too?
Yes. Our Truckee office covers the greater Tahoe area, including Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Carnelian Bay, and Incline Village for Nevada County cases. Call (530) 265-0535.
